Every year, Minnesota farmers leave thousands of dollars in cost-share and incentive payments unclaimed. Why? Because navigating the alphabet soup of agencies—MDA, BWSR, NRCS, SWCD—is a headache, and the paperwork often feels like more work than the farming itself. We can help, and for the 2026 season, the opportunities are significant. Whether you are looking at cover crops, nitrogen reduction, or soil health equipment, there is likely a program designed to help pay for it.
The catch? You need a plan, and you need to act before the seed hits the ground.
Here is a quick look at where the money is flowing this year and how Harvest Drone helps you capture it.
Where the Money Is (The Big Buckets)
1. MDA Nitrogen Management Pilot (DWSMA) If you farm within a Level 2 Drinking Water Supply Management Area, this is a heavy hitter. This competitive pilot pays flat rates for practices that protect water quality.
Cover Crops: Up to $40/acre (125-acre cap).
Delayed Termination: Up to $25/acre.
Nitrogen Reduction: Up to $25/acre.
Precision Ag: Reimbursements for variable rate technology and testing.
2. MDA Soil Health Financial Assistance (Equipment) Thinking about buying your own soil health equipment? This grant offers up to 50% cost-share ($500–$45,000 awards) for items like no-till drills, air seeders, and even ag drones. Note: Another round is anticipated for Summer 2026.
3. SWCD & Federal Cost-Share (BWSR & NRCS) Your local Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is often the fastest route to funding. Through state (BWSR) and federal (EQIP/CSP) dollars, you can get per-acre payments for cover crop establishment and nutrient management planning.
The #1 Mistake Farmers Make
They do the work before signing the contract. Most government programs require your contract to be fully executed before you plant. If you fly your cover crop seed on Monday and sign the paperwork on Tuesday, you might be disqualified.
Always confirm eligibility with your local SWCD office first.
How Harvest Drone Helps You Get Paid
We aren't grant writers, but we are the "execution partner" that makes these programs viable for your operation.
1. We Handle the Application (The Aerial Kind) Programs pay for results. You need the cover crop established, but you don't have time to run a drill during harvest. Our Solution: We provide precision aerial seeding into standing crops. We get the seed down without you parking the combine.
2. We Provide the Proof To get your check, you need proof of work. Our Solution: We provide clean, digital application records (rates, timing, dates, and mapped acres). When the SWCD asks, "Did you really seed those 125 acres?" you hand them our report.
3. We Align with Nutrient Goals Programs reward nutrient efficiency. Our Solution: While programs pay for the practice, our products like SOURCE® and BLUEPRINT™ ensure you actually get the result—better nutrient availability and reduced loss.
